A McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 fighter aircraft of the Swiss Air Force flies through a valley in the Swiss Alps. The Hornet F/A-18 is a multi-role all-weather fighter-bomber. The aircraft was designed in the 1970s and 1980s, based on the Northrop YF-17, for the United States Navy. It is still in service with the US Navy, the US Marine Corps and the air forces of several other countries, including Finland, Switzerland, Australia, Spain and Canada.
