The churning water of the river Vesteråselva near Geiranger in Norway. It is partly the water of this river that feeds the Storsæterfossen waterfall. There are many waterfalls in Norway, but this one is special, because you can walk behind it.
But watching the wild river Vesteråselva for a while is also an experience in itself. The photo was taken in early June, the season when the snow melts on the mountains. It is fascinating to see how all that meltwater finds its way over rocks in the river and past trees and grass on the banks. The water is forced through the riverbed and thunders at great speed, swirling and foaming towards the waterfall.
After the waterfall Storsæterfossen, the river continues down the mountain slope, eventually flowing into the river Geirangelva via two branches. This river runs through the village of Geiranger through many waterfalls.
