About ‘Swans Square Fractal Octagon’ by Tis Veugen

This image has fractal behavior both at the border as well and in the center. The basic figure of the whole square contains triangles that are deformed into swans in such a way that all swans have the same shape; they are only rotated and/or scaled, but not mirrored. A swan generates towards the border two smaller swans, with half the area; and it does the same towards the center. The inspiration of this image comes from Escher’s Square Limit, and the color scheme with 3 colors is analoguous. The substitution scheme at the diagonals has been made consistent, so that one swan also generates two smaller swans there. As a result, the shape of the overall image becomes a non-regular octagon instead of a square. Besides the double fractal structure, another difference with Escher’s Square Limit is that the swans have no mirrored tiles.

My training as a mathematician and my experience as a software programmer are the basic elements for designing my works of art. Since my retirement in 2019 I have started creating digital art with a mathematical slant. The works of M.C. Escher are a source of inspiration. Thanks to programs I developed myself on the computer, I am able to add extra dimensions to Escher's works in the form of structures with photographic material.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
