Swallowtail butterflies on white flowers against a deep blue background

by ManfredFotos

A hummingbird moth hovers beside the white flowers of the ‘Seven Sons of Heaven’ shrub and extends its long proboscis towards the blossoms. The small, pale flowers sit on reddish, delicate twigs and are accompanied by numerous buds. Particularly striking is the deep blue, softly blurred background, which forms a striking contrast to the white flowers and the warm brown tones of the moth. The fluttering wings convey a sense of movement, whilst the sharply defined flower branches lend the image a clear structure. For a brief moment, the small hawk-moth appears to be hovering freely beside the plant. The unusual combination of dark blue, white and warm natural tones lends the photograph an elegant, almost painterly effect. As a wall hanging, this motif is particularly well-suited to modern interiors where cool shades of blue and grey play an important role. Against a light-coloured wall, the intense background creates a striking sense of depth. When paired with wooden or cream-coloured furniture, it creates a harmonious balance between cool and warm colours. For lovers of butterflies, garden flowers and detailed nature photography, this photograph offers a fascinating encounter with one of the most extraordinary aerial acrobats amongst our native butterflies.
