The Supermarine Spitfire was a British fighter aircraft. The aircraft was put into production in 1938 by Supermarine Division, Vickers Armstrong Ltd. The aircraft was used throughout World War II by the Allies, mainly by the RAF. A total of 20,340 were built,[1] as well as the Seafire variant, of which 2,594 were built. The Spitfire is notable for its streamline and elliptical wings. The Mk. XIV version achieved a maximum speed of 721 km/h at an altitude of 8000 metres. The aircraft is best known for the decisive role it played during the Battle of Britain.
