Sunset over the Maasvlakte near Rotterdam on a beautiful evening by Bas Meelker

This photo shows an impressive sunset over a vast coastline. The beach is full of subtle, undulating sand structures carefully shaped by the tides. The moist sand beautifully reflects the colours of the sky, creating an almost surreal mirror. The sky explodes in a palette of warm hues, ranging from deep orange and red to soft purple and intense blue. Clouds slowly drift across the scene as the last light of the day illuminates their edges with a golden glow.

The horizon divides the picture into two harmonious parts: the dramatic sky above and the calm, shimmering beach below. The low perspective makes the beach seem to run on endlessly, creating a sense of depth and space. The subtle texture of the sand contrasts beautifully with the smooth and picturesque sky, constantly drawing the eye between the two elements.

The light from the setting sun reflects in the small puddles left in the sand, adding an extra dimension to the image. This reflection enhances the sense of symmetry and balance in the composition. The intensity of the colours and the tight lighting suggest that this picture was taken at the perfect moment - that magical moment when day and night meet.

This photo exudes tranquillity, grandeur and the power of nature. It evokes a sense of wonder and introspection as the viewer feels small and at the same time connected to the world around them.
