About ‘Sunset in Domburg with a long shutter speed’ by Raoul Baart

Domburg beach just before sunset.
The rows of piles or timber groynes are characteristic of Zeeland's beaches and are meant to break the force of the waves and thus prevent erosion of the coastline. The piles are usually made of oak and some groynes are around 100 years old.
For the photographer they offer beautiful lines and add depth to compositions. Here, I emphasised the piles even more by using a slow shutter speed. This ensures that no wave action can be seen and so the poles stand out even better against the now smooth waters of the North Sea.
