About ‘Sunset at the port area of Dunkirk’ by Author Sim1

This impression of the sunset near the port area of Dunkirk (France) shows nothing of the largest ever evacuation operation, namely Operation Dynamo in May/June 1940.
During this gigantic operation, several hundred thousand English, as well as French, soldiers, who were encircled by the Germans were evacuated to England at the cost of heavy losses.
Just about anything that could sail was used for this purpose, from naval vessels to fishing boats and pleasure yachts.
Dutch ships also contributed to this large-scale escape from the German encirclement.
War Museum Dunkirk 1940 is almost entirely dedicated to Operation Dynamo and well worth a visit.
