With two friends, we walked a multi-day trek in Taiwan's central mountains in late February. After a tough first day, we spent the night in a mountain hut located in alpine terrain. Despite the spartan sleeping conditions, we slept for an hour. As a result, the sun was already up when we left around 06:30 on our way to the top of the mountain called xueshan. This sunrise felt like a reward for the cold night with sub-zero temperatures. The first rays of sun over these huge mountains created a special atmosphere in a place where we were almost alone and gave us motivation to reach that 3888-metre peak.
