In the Drentsche Aa river valley, northeast of Assen in Drenthe, you will enjoy a landscape that has hardly changed since a hundred years ago. Here, babbling brooks meander through heathlands, sand drifts and historic esdorpen. In spring, the hay fields turn yellow with buttercups and in autumn everything changes to an orange-brown glow.
Nationaal Park Drentsche Aa is an incredibly varied National Park. One moment you walk through villages and along farm roads. The next moment you pass fields and meadows, babbling brooks and beautiful forest reserves. You go from moors to sand drifts. This National Park is home to one of the Forestry Commission's forestry trails.
I explored this part of National Park Drentsche Aa with Boswachterspad Oudemolense Diep. It is a varied route on a small stretch of asphalt, but mainly on forest paths, dirt roads and here and there a plank. You pass babbling brooks, along vast fields, over forest paths, over bridges and through a grazing area.
I did the walk at sunrise and this produced the most beautiful images.
