The horse of Marken captured during sunset, with a longer shutter speed. As early as 1700, a coal fire was fired at the tip of Marken to guide ships on the Zuiderzee to and from Amsterdam. In 1839 the old tower was replaced by the current lighthouse. Because of its characteristic shape it was soon called the Horse of Marken.
