Between Hoogezand and Zuidlaren is a water storage and reclamation area Tusschenwater in the province of Drenthe. It has been officially opened since 2019. Soon birds like the avocet, waders, ducks and geese discovered this promising new foraging area. You can also encounter the otter and beaver there. This nature reserve is one of the last links to a natural Hunzedal. Tusschenwater is a very wet area where there will be water all year round. It is therefore possible to walk on the quays in and around the area. The area is managed by the Drentse Landschap Foundation.
