Hempens-Teerns; they are nowadays mentioned in the same breath as twin villages, although they still appear separately in the telephone directory. The village of Teerns no longer actually exists. The old core has disappeared under the intersection south of the Escheraquaduct. The hamlet on the Himpenserdyk (near the bridge over the Nauwe Greuns that belonged to Teerns), has united with Hempens on the other side of the water. Both villages are connected by a very old, swivel, bridge: The ox bridge. During an early bicycle or walking trip, it seems nothing at all like being in Leeuwarden. These villages have managed to retain their unique character. Perhaps that is why this photo, showing an early sunrise, is so beautiful and captivating. The sun's rays pierce through the ominous cloud cover and the century-old bridge lies peacefully. Perhaps that is why this photo is so beautiful and unique. What are you waiting for? Order it quickly and who knows, maybe it will soon be hanging on your wall!
