I made this photograph at sunrise while the gondolas rested in a steady line and San Giorgio Maggiore rose beyond. The first color arrived like a whisper and the water held a soft skin. I wanted rhythm without rush, a gentle cadence that leads across the frame.
I used a slow shutter to ease the ripples and a careful focus to keep the posts and covers crisp. Look for knots that catch a highlight, the slight dip of one hull, and a pale band of color that holds the island. The palette is restrained so the work lives comfortably with neutral materials.
The mood is calm and inviting. For me this image is about approach and distance, the way a day begins by crossing water toward stone.
