A digitally restored and cleaned version of the "Sudden rain shower over the Shin-Ōhashi Bridge and Atake" by Utagawa Hiroshige, the most famous woodcut artist in the world.
It was published in 1857 as part of the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo and is one of Hiroshige's best-known prints. The well-known variants of this print by Van Gogh, is in fact a later state. The first state depicted two additional boats, a different background, less angular rain and a cutting error in the pylons which was corrected by hand painting. The photograph is part of the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, which in fact contains 119 views of 'named places' or 'celebrated places' in the area that is Tokyo today.
