I found this Eurasian collared dove in the garden, on top of a feeding pole I had put up. Apparently it sits nicely, because this dove is often there. Every day even, eating a snack or so and mostly sitting on top of that pole. And sometimes it stretches its wings - nice little upward muscle tightening to pump some blood through it.
Eurasian collared doves are indistinguishable from each other. Males and females look the same and I now have about a group of four or five in the garden. So it's also quite possible that the place on the feeding post is occupied by various doves.
Eurasian collared dove are originally from the Balkans, from the area that used to belong to the Ottoman Empire. They were not imported into Western Europe. They came on their own.
They have a light beige plumage with a slight reddish glow, and a black and white neck band. The underside of the wings is white. The eyes have a deep black iris. They are easily recognisable with their cow-cow-cow sound.
