Contrary to popular belief, the evenings and sunsets during a ship expedition (such as the PS132 from Bremerhaven to Cape Town with the Polarstern) have their own facets. In this case, a rain front covered the last rays of sunlight, which pushed past a grey band of clouds. In such a constellation, the sun does not appear to be 150,000,000 kilometres away from the earth and is instead a local weather phenomenon that the clouds are trying to smother.
