Dominating one of Sen Monorom's emblematic roundabouts, two kouprey statues are a reminder of the grandeur of this emblematic wild animal of Cambodia. The kouprey, with its dark coat and imposing horns, is now almost legendary, probably extinct but still alive in the collective imagination. These life-size sculptures evoke both the animal's brute strength and the cultural pride of the inhabitants of Mondulkiri, a mountainous and unspoilt region in north-east Cambodia. The scene is striking, especially when the golden morning light illuminates the statues, casting long shadows on the asphalt. Surrounded by vegetation and often photographed by visitors, this roundabout becomes a strong visual and symbolic landmark. It marks the entrance to an area where nature remains sovereign, and where tradition and the environment meet with strength and humility.
