This modern still life is part of a photo series about energy sources we used to use. In the 1930s, most houses didn't have a bathroom. In the kitchen, you put water in the jug. In the bedroom, you then poured the water into the basin so you could wash. In the small basin was soap. In the big basin you kept a comb or brush. My grandmother kept this washstand set in her guest room for many years. A happy memory.
