Landschaftspark Duisburg
Production at the Meiderich steelworks ended on 4 April 1985. At the same time, it was the beginning of an incredible development: anyone who wants to climb the 70-metre-high platform of blast furnace 5, which is open to everyone, is amazed by the result. The contrast between constant redevelopment and constant preservation of monuments has turned an industrial wasteland into a unique experience space for young and old, a development that continues.
The idea of a new type of industrial natural and cultural landscape was born in 1989. Based on a design by Professor Peter Latz and partners, a landscape park, which is neither a park nor a landscape in the original sense, was created on the approximately 180-hectare site in the north of Duisburg.
