About the artwork

The Museum Steam Tram Hoorn-Medemblik operates a service on the tourist railway Hoorn - Medemblik with historic steam tram rolling stock.

The museum uses the former goods and marshalling yard of Hoorn station. The first trips with museum rolling stock were made here on 23 May 1968. This used locomotives 18 and 30 with NS Blockbox coaches. The steam tram company recalls the many steam tram companies as they existed in the Netherlands between 1879 and 1966. The year 1926 is used as a guide for the steam tram. The Museum Steam Tram uses the former local railway line between Hoorn and Medemblik, opened in 1887.

Tulips originally came from the area that became known as Kazakhstan, then part of the Ottoman Empire. The genus's range extends from the Iberian Peninsula through North Africa to Greece, the Balkans, Turkey, the Middle East, Syria, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Iran, Ukraine, southern Siberia, Mongolia and north-western China.

Tulips need a cold night and a cold winter to grow, which means they cannot be grown in warm climates. New bulbs are grown by planting tulip bulbs in autumn. Over 75% of cultivated tulip bulbs are destined for flower production at home or abroad. The rest are sold to consumers as flower bulbs or end up in parks and public gardens. The flowering period runs from April to June.
