Under the infinite sky of the Atacama



When the sun slowly sinks behind the jagged silhouettes of the Andes, the Atacama Desert seems to hold its breath for a moment. During the day, this is one of the driest places on earth, rough and silent. But as soon as night falls, something extraordinary happens: the sky opens up.

Far away from cities and artificial light, the darkness here is truly dark. One by one, the stars appear, until the night sky turns into a sparkling ocean of light. The Milky Way arches over the landscape like a milky river, so bright that you can almost touch it. It feels as if you are no longer standing under the stars, but in the middle of them.

With the camera on a tripod and the soft click of the shutter as the only sound, the patient work of astrophotography begins. Long exposures capture what the human eye can barely comprehend: nebulae, star trails, subtle colours and a depth that spans millions of years. Each photo is a conversation with time — light that began its journey long before there were people to capture it.

The Atacama is mercilessly honest. It demands silence, attention and respect. The cold of the night creeps up slowly, while the stars follow their orbits unperturbed. Hours pass unnoticed. Sometimes you put the camera down for a moment, simply to look. To feel how small you are, and at the same time how special it is to be able to stand here.

When the first hint of morning light touches the horizon, the stars fade one by one. What remains is the realisation that you have experienced something that is difficult to put into words. The photographs are tangible memories, but the true experience lies in the moment itself: alone, in the silence of the desert, under a sky that briefly revealed its secrets.
