Just before sunset, the sun shines between the stones. They are the standing stones of Callanish on the island of Lewis and Harris on Scotland's west coast. The stones stand in a circle with a few large ones in the middle. The circle forms the heart with a gallery to the north and rows of stones to the other cardinal points.
Photographing the stones at sunset enhances the serene and spiritual atmosphere. It is a place to meditate in a place, where it was done a few thousand years ago.
Landscapes and townscapes are my favourite subjects. I search for beauty in the image; that can come from any of the compositional elements such as lines, shapes, rhythms, light/dark, colour combinations. For me a photograph is successful, when I can hang it on the wall.. Read more…
