Symmetry is the most striking feature of the picture. The design is perfectly mirrored in the centre along a vertical axis. Symmetry often conveys order, stability and balance in architecture. This is further emphasised by the regular repetition of the zigzag patterns and the arches, both of which create an almost ritual rhythm. The geometric structure in the upper part of the painting with its repeating zigzag shapes is typical of Art Deco motifs, a style based on geometric shapes and clean lines. This formal language is strongly associated with modernity and industrial aesthetics. The lines in the picture - especially the central arch, which seems to lead into the depths - create a spatial dimension that gives the picture three-dimensionality. The central arch looks like an entrance or gate that could lead the viewer to a room beyond. This reinforces the impression of deep, inviting architecture.
