The Catharinakerk of the Frisian village of Lions (Leons) is a rewarding object to photograph, here brightly lit from the back left by the newly-risen sun.
The little church dates from the 12th century and is no longer in use for church services; concerts are sometimes held there or there is an exhibition of art.
The water is the Lionser opvaart and gives the picture a little extra atmosphere. When you are here early in the morning, it is like stepping into another world while you are near the provincial road from Leeuwarden to Boslward.
