Kasteel Neercanne for Dutch speakers and Château Neercanne for French speakers directly across the border. In earlier years, the castle was called Agimont, a 17th-century baroque castle in the Jeker river valley, southwest of the Dutch municipality of Maastricht. Neercanne is still just on Dutch territory, on the Cannerweg. It is close to the Belgian-Limburg village of Kanne. Neercanne Castle is the only terraced castle in the Netherlands, built on a landscaped terrace on the slope of the Cannerberg. The baroque garden is also terraced.
The castle is home to a renowned restaurant called Château Neercanne. Several landscape walks run along and across the grounds of the castle, providing a good close-up view of the beautiful historical complex. The creation of the monetary union of Europe through the currency the EURO finally took place here, while enjoying a bite to eat and a drink.
