I took this photo in Osaka, Japan. For my work I was allowed to go this way and in advance I had marked a number of locations to photograph including this spiral staircase.
Armed with tripod, camera and an ultra-wide 14mm lens, I went in search of the location, which had to be not too far from my hotel. It always remains to be seen if the location is correct and also freely accessible.
In this case, the location was in an open building where I could walk right in. It was already evening, therefore there was no one at all in the building and I could quietly go about my business. Arriving in the hall, I soon saw these stairs. Now it was first up and down the stairs to see how I could get the best perspective in one shot. I ended up taking several shots here where this one is my favourite. Once finished here, I was able to get back on the road to enjoy exploring the streets of Osaka.
As always, I edit my photos taken on the road at my desk at home. There I have access to a fast computer, a large screen, a Wacom drawing tablet and several software packages to make the photo suitable for your wall. In this case, I also messed around with the colours, to create a bit of a "retro feel", and removed a few distracting lights.
