In my paintings, I like to straddle the line between realism and abstraction. You can see what is depicted, but in such'a way that the image takes on an abstract character.
With this work, I wanted to explore the same with drawing pencils. By blending light and shadow with all shades of colour and through an unusual composition, the female forms also become planes, lines and rhythm.
Up close, the character of the pencil drawing is easily distinguishable against the texture of the drawing paper used. But from further away, the strokes melt together, with a softness that suits the sensual subject matter.
