The Night Watch Rembrandt's most famous and largest canvas was created for the Kloveniersdoelen. Using light, Rembrandt drew attention to important details, such as the captain's hand gesture and the little girl in the background. She is the mascot of the archers. This is Niesje. She has her best clothes on. And Niesje's mother has combed her hair for hours and the neighbor has put a beautiful golden crown on it. But why does she look so beautiful? Niesje is not alone. All the archers are walking around her. They are also dressed so beautifully. And how restless they are. Does my collar look good, does my hair look good, does my hat look straight," they ask each other excitedly. They walk back and forth so busily that you can hardly see Niesje anymore.
Here Niesje is drawn with pastel crayon and the light falls on her beautiful red hair.
