The short-toed eagle is a bird in the hawk family.
The snake eagle is 62 to 69 cm long and has a wingspan of 1.62 to 1.78 m. It is thus a rather large eagle with black relatively large, owl-like head (with large yellow eyes). In all dresses, the species has a very light underside, with in most cases a dark head (balaclava), but specimens with a light head also occur. The wings are long and broad, with no pulse marks on the underwing. In gliding flight, the wrist is held forward in a characteristic angled manner. The tail is rather long, sharply angulated and straight cut, banded with several narrow dark transverse bands and a dark terminal band.
I photographed this short-toed eagle at National Park de Hoge Veluwe.
