Smoking Etna beneath a deep blue sky

by Jeroen Berendse

About this work:
On Mount Etna in Sicily, Europe’s highest active volcano, I stand on a barren plain of black lava dust. Above me, white plumes of smoke rise from the peaks and craters, standing out sharply against a deep blue sky. A dark, solidified lava flow cuts diagonally across the mountainside, revealing the power that is always simmering beneath the surface here. The contrast between the raw, earthy tones and the bright blue lends this landscape an almost otherworldly tranquillity. This piece brings the silence and primal power of nature into your home, ideal for anyone who loves travel, mountains and landscapes.

About Jeroen Berendse:
In my day job, I’m a marketer. That means listening carefully to and observing customers, and using that knowledge to devise relevant solutions. As a photographer, I actually do the same thing, with the difference that I mainly listen closely to myself.

Photography is a way of telling a story. Captured in the perfect still image. A good photograph takes you in your mind’s eye to a special place in the world, an event that makes you smile or sets your creative mind at work. And because this is very personal, the same photograph evokes a unique experience and feeling in everyone – both the photographer and the viewer.

My portfolio contains photographs of a wide variety of subjects. You can find my full portfolio in my shop at Werk aan de Muur and on my website www.jeroenberendse.nl.
