A skyscraper is a very tall building used for living or working. This does not include observation towers and transmission towers without regular floors, such as the Eiffel Tower or the CN Tower. Important technical factors in the history of skyscrapers include the development of the elevator and the use of high quality steel and concrete. The 97 meter high Boerentoren in Antwerp (Belgium) in 1931 is considered to be the first skyscraper in Europe [4] because of its height and steel skeleton. In 1898, the White House in Rotterdam was the tallest office building in Europe (43 metres high) and was built after the example of American skyscrapers.
