For the true lover of Deventer, this is a very familiar image; the view of Deventer's skyline from the railway bridge over the IJssel river towards the city. You can see the silhouette of the Lebuïnus church, the Wilhelmina bridge and in the distance, the towers of the Berg church can also be seen through the mist.
At any time of day, you see different light, different waves, different amounts of water and different colours here. Here, the water was relatively high. For me, this view continues to inspire me as an artist. The painting gives a warm feeling for the beautiful Hanseatic city of Deventer as it is today (still) and at the same time the nostalgia of the timeless aspect of this beautiful skyline and eternal river.
