Sketch of a horse at a gallop by Lauren Wilde

This sketch captures the essence of the horse in its purest and freest form: at full gallop, detached from rider, environment or context. With fast, energetic lines, the horse is set down as if it could break out of the paper at any moment. The pencil strokes are visible, sometimes rough and unfinished, but therein lies the power of this work. The body is muscular and powerful, the neck proudly arched, the mane and tail seem to move at the speed of a gallop. Everything here is about movement, rhythm and energy.

The minimalist background allows all attention to go to the horse. There are no distractions, no scenery, just the equine body in action. This makes the sketch almost timeless and universal. The work shows how deeply horses have been connected to art for centuries. From classical studies to modern equine art, the horse remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration precisely because of its strength, elegance and freedom.

This work appeals to horse lovers who love purity and expression, as well as lovers of sketching, movement and anatomy. It fits beautifully in a study, studio or modern living room, where it adds energy and dynamism without being overpowering. This work also comes into its own strongly in a stable, office or training room. It is an ode to the horse as an athlete, as a living work of art and as a symbol of freedom.
