About the artwork

Drone shot of Sint-Benedictusberg Abbey in Mamelis, South Limburg, the Netherlands. Using a drone gives very different, beautiful and interesting images. Images that we normally cannot perceive from the ground in our own perspective, which makes them different and unique. Beautiful and unique images that would do well as canvas on the wall or wallpaper, a beautiful piece of South Limburg in autumn colours at home.

More information on the beautiful Abbey:

Sint-Benedictusberg Abbey is a Benedictine abbey in the Dutch-Limburg town of Mamelis in the municipality of Vaals, belonging to the Solesmes congregation. The abbey is close to the Maastricht-Aachen provincial road on a height overlooking the Selzerbeek valley. The church and part of the monastery are considered important examples of the Bossche School and the work of Dom Hans van der Laan. The entire building has national monument status.

The abbey was founded as a replacement for an abbey in Merkelbeek. This abbey was founded in 1897 and predominantly populated by German monks who sought refuge in the Netherlands because of the restrictive measures against monasteries during the Kulturkampf in Germany. However, Merkelbeek Abbey suffered sensitive losses as a result of the First World War. At that time, many friars were forced to serve in the imperial army and after the end of the war, the monastery was all but deserted.
