I have been visiting Singapore regularly for work since 1998, and each time the city manages to inspire me anew. I took this photo from my balcony, during a particularly colorful sunset. The view was impressive: the skyline was bathed in light, with the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel towering over the city like a ship on the left.
What appeals to me about Singapore is the balance between sleek modernism and tropical energy. I wanted to capture that atmosphere in this panoramic shot. By using multiple exposures, I was able to highlight both the shadows and light areas well, so that every detail remains visible without overexposure.
The colors play an important role in the experience of this work. The sky colors from deep orange to purple-pink, with subtle transitions to blue and indigo in the higher layers. The city itself is lit with cool tones: steel blue, silver and white, contrasting with the warm light of the sun. Together, they create a vibrant but balanced colour palette that exudes tranquillity as well as energy.
Post-processing is an essential part of the process for me. I pay a lot of attention to colour correction, contrast and sharpness, so that the end result is not only technically correct, but also emotionally affecting. This photo is a moment of stillness in a city that never stands still.
