About "Simca 8 Sport"

About the artwork

This Simca 8 Sport (1948-1952) was modelled on a historical photo (and can therefore be printed in any size) and during my research I found out, among other things, that it was also exhibited in 1953 in the Modern Art of Museum in New York as one of the most beautiful sports coupes and looks almost the same as the Ferrari 166 INTER or Cisitalia 202 GT which was also exhibited in the MoMa.

The Bordeaux Grand Prix was an international Formula 1 race, 1952 was the year they introduced the category "tourist car" (voitures de tourisme) there and there were normal and probably some optimised Porsche 356, Panhard, Peugeot etc. racing, among them also a Simca 8 Sport. This with the starting number #100 was driven by Gonzague Olivier on 4 May 1952 at the Circuit International de Vitesse in Bordeaux (Grand Prix Automobil de Bordeaux) and finished 2nd. The Simca 8 Sport was entered in numerous national and international races, including the Rally Monte Carlo from 1951-1952. In 1952, the French couple Angelvin even won with it in the class of cars from 1101 to 1500 cc. In the 1950 Rally Monte Carlo, the Coupes (drivers Trintignant and Jean Behra) finished fourth and fifth.

Gonzague Olivier (* 27 September 1921 in Croix, Pas-de-Calais; † 30 January 2013) was a French motor racing driver and boat builder who competed in a great many motor races. However, he drove most and most important circuit races (Nürburgring, Sebring, Le Mans, Spa, etc.) with a Porsche 356 and Porsche 550/4 Spyder.
