American Elks are very large deer, with impressive antlers. This male likes to show off his crown in between grazing. They eat a lot before the rut, as the rut consumes a lot of energy. This is immediately followed by the harsh winter in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. So building up a good food supply is really a must.
