About ‘Seven chicks - Melchior d'Hondecoeter’
This oil study of chicks offers a unique insight into the working methods of Melchior d'Hondecoeter, the best-known Dutch painter of bird paintings from the 17th century. He used such studies as the basis for his monumental park landscapes, which he decorated with a variety of bird species. This work depicts seven chicken chicks in various poses.
