While we were waiting for the sunset at Domburg, a layer of high clouds with a very fine texture drifted over. Using a medium shutter speed, to soften the water but allow the clouds to retain their texture, I eventually took this photo.
Pictured is one of the wooden breakers, or "paalhoofd" so characteristic of the beaches of the province of Zeeland. The sometimes centuries-old rows of mainly oak posts help protect the coast from the force of the sea and are also a favorite subject for photographers. With their regularity and clean lines, they are a great subject to add structure and depth to beach photos of the Zeeland coast. Moreover, here they also contrast well with the smooth beach, as the retreating tide here had just removed all footprints from a busy summer beach day.
