The Scottish Shepherd Dog has been known in Scotland since the 13th century and until the 18th century was mainly used as a shepherd of sheep. In 1840 the first Collie Club was founded. The Scottish shepherd dog is ancestor of the Australian cattle dog, among others. To give the Scottish shepherd a more elegant appearance, they have bred in Barzois and English setters. Thanks to the Barzoi, the Collie now has a longer nose. After Queen Victoria chose him as a pet dog and later on because of the television series Lassie, he became one of the most famous dog breeds. source wikipedia
