The Schwarzenbach Dam is located in the northern Black Forest near Forbach and is the largest dam in the region. It was built in the 1920s to generate energy, regulate floods and secure the drinking water supply. The reservoir holds around 14 million cubic metres of water and, with its dam wall up to 400 metres long, is an impressive feat of engineering.
Today, the Schwarzenbach dam is not only an important technical site, but also a popular excursion destination.
