This photograph shows the Elbe Sandstone Mountains at dusk, when the sun is already low on the horizon and its light filters through a finely textured layer of clouds. In the foreground lie light-coloured sandstone cliffs with their angular shapes and weathered surfaces. Behind them stretch dense woodlands, open areas in the valleys and the characteristic table mountains of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. I find the many small patches of cloud in the sky particularly interesting; they distribute the light evenly and give the photograph its distinctive texture. Only on closer inspection do the fine veils of mist become visible, lying between the wooded ridges.
The photograph was taken one evening from a viewpoint on Mount Gohrisch. What fascinates me most about this region is the contrast between the striking sandstone cliffs and the sweeping views across forests and mountains. On that day, it was not so much the intensity of the sunset as the tranquil play of light that inspired me to take the photograph. The low-angled sunlight modelled the landscape in a very natural way and made the individual levels of the terrain particularly clear.
With this shot, I wanted to capture the subdued atmosphere that arises as a clear day slowly draws to a close. The landscape appears calm and orderly, without being static. The combination of the cool blue and green tones of the woods and the warm light of the evening sun creates a balanced colour effect that authentically reflects the character of the region.
As a wall hanging, this image particularly appeals to people who feel a connection to Saxon Switzerland, hiking or the landscapes of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
I feel as a beautiful challenge to put nature and landscape exciting in scene and thus tell the viewer of my pictures a little story .
My favorite topics are wide landscapes, the natural movement of water, clouds and plants, big and small details of our environment, special light moods.
