The Schneiderloch is a small and narrow rock cave
and is located in the immediate vicinity of the famous Kuhstall rock gate in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The name Kuhstall is said to have originated during the Thirty Years' War, when the local inhabitants hid their cattle here from the Swedish soldiers.

The Elbe Sandstone Mountains are located in the border region between Saxony and the Czech Republic, around 50 kilometres south of Dresden. The German part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains is also known as Saxon Switzerland - the Czech part is known as Bohemian Switzerland. The landscape, characterised by bizarre rock formations, lies south-east of Dresden on both sides of the Elbe in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains. The Elbe Sandstone Mountains are also known as the "Grand Canyon of the East" due to the uniqueness of their rock formations.

There are many impressive and famous excursion destinations in Saxon Switzerland. Some of these include the Bastei with its impressive rock formation and the Bastei Bridge, Königstein Fortress, the Schrammsteine, the Kuhstall, the Lilienstein and the popular Malerweg hiking trail.
