At dusk, Zwolle's Sassenpoort is enveloped in a magical display of colours. The ancient stones, steeped in history, are kissed by the sun's last rays, illuminating them as an ancient symbol of strength and perseverance. Against the backdrop of a sky unfolding in a picturesque palette of pinks, oranges and blues, the gate rises over the city like a proud sentinel. The sunset casts a warm glow over the surroundings, creating an enchanting atmosphere of tranquillity and wonder. Anchored in time, the Sassenpoort radiates a timeless beauty that enraptures every onlooker.
The Sassenpoort in Zwolle's city wall is a city gate built in the late 14th and early 15th centuries as part of the city defences. The architect is unknown. A lot of natural stone was used for its construction, especially trachyte and tuff. The Sassenpoort belongs to the Top 100 of the National Trust for the Preservation of Monuments.
