Sand-coloured Panorama Painting: Woman in a Sea of Silk

by Surreal Media

I look at this work and the first thing I see is that enormous wave of silk fabric. A woman stands in the centre, her bare back turned towards the light and her face raised, and from her waist a sand-coloured dress flows like a river across the entire width of the picture. The folds are fine and taut, almost like pleats, and they catch the sunlight on every edge. If you look for longer, you’ll see that on the right-hand side the fabric merges into a gentle wave that briefly takes on the shape of a dune, and that the background itself also seems to consist of curtains of fabric. Clothing and landscape merge into one another.

It began with a sense of space. I thought of the silence of a desert, of warm air sweeping over sand, and of a woman standing there, completely at ease. Nothing has to move; everything is free to move.

The atmosphere is warm and soft: cream, sand, honey and a deep brown in the shadows. The light sweeping in from the side gives the folds a sense of depth and casts long shadows across the ground, as if it were late afternoon.

For me, this work is about self-confidence and intimacy. She presents herself without needing to prove anything, with her back to us, and it is precisely this that makes it feel personal. It is suggestive and understated, never explicit. It is a digital artwork, with the look of a painting in which light and fabric take centre stage.

Thanks to its wide panoramic format, it looks lovely above a bed or a long sofa. In a bedroom, it brings a sense of calm; in a living room, a touch of faraway travels; and in a bathroom, that warm, sunny softness. For those who love fashion, dance or simply the feeling of sunshine on their skin.
