Sand hills in the Deadvlei, Namibia.
Sossusvlei is a clay valley in the middle of the Namib Desert. The valley is part of the Namib-Naukluft National Park in Namibia. Nourished by the Tsauchab River, the area is known for the high, red sand dunes that surround it and make it a great sea of sand. Vegetation, such as the acacia, is supplied with water by the Tsauchab's rare floods, which slowly fill up the soil. The red colour of the sand is caused by the high concentration of iron.
Dodevlei is a white clay plain near the more famous Sossusvlei, in Namib-Naukluft National Park in Namibia. Dodevlei is surrounded by some of the highest dunes in the world, the highest of which is 300 to 400 metres high, and is situated on a sandstone terrace.
