About "Ruth, Naomi and Orpah"

About the artwork

In ancient Israel, during the time of the judges, a woman named Naomi lived with her husband Elimelech and their two sons, Machlon and Kiljon. Because of a famine, the family decided to move to Moab, a neighbouring country. Unfortunately, Elimelech died shortly after their arrival, leaving Naomi a widow.

Naomi's sons married Moabite women, Orpah and Ruth. But tragically, Machlon and Kiljon also died, leaving Naomi without a husband and sons. In her grief, Naomi decided to return to Bethlehem, her hometown. Ruth and Orpah were determined to go with her, but Naomi urged them to stay in Moab and start their own families.

Orpah, though dejected, eventually returned to her family. Ruth, on the other hand, persisted and told Naomi, "Do not push me away, do not ask me to leave you, for wherever you go, I will go, wherever you stay, I will stay; your people are my people and your God is my God." Together they returned to Bethlehem, where Ruth worked hard in the field of a well-to-do farmer named Boaz.

Boaz noticed Ruth and appreciated her devotion to Naomi. He offered her protection and privileges, and eventually Ruth and Boaz married. This union brought blessing and joy to Naomi, who once again found love and care in her life.
