Rucker’s Hermit (Glaucis Ruckeri), John Gould This species of Glaucis, which has only been found hitherto in Veragua and the adjacent states of Central America, is so rare, that two specimens in my own collection, from which the figures were taken, and a third, imperfect in the plumage of the chest, in that of Mr. Loddiges at Hackney, are all the examples that have come under my notice. This illustration has been restored to its original vibrancy by enhancing colors and removing unwanted marks. A monograph of the Trochilidæ, or family of humming-birds was published between 1849 and 1887 by English ornithologist John Gould. This monumental work depicts and describes all the known species of hummingbirds at the time - comprising 418 lithographic plates and information on 537 species."
