A beautiful 19th-century portrait of the Bierhaven in Rotterdam. Photography was still fairly in its infancy and that is clear from the people on the quay. The portrait captivates. The people's clothes, their posture, the light on the water... The longer you look at the enlargement of the image, the more people you discover on it. A chic lady on the left looks back. A gentleman in a top hat stands distinguished at the edge of the quay. A dock employee leans a little lower on the steps between the boat and the quay, and the maid on the right puts her hands to her sides to take a good look at the photographer's actions. A nice application for a portrait like this? How about a print on wallpaper for a wall in a modern office? Or a large print on art frame in a waiting room? Because no matter how you look at it, visitors will always discover new things when viewing the portrait. A nice way to spend your waiting time.
